What is Red and Green?
Red and Green is a choir that sings together every week in North London. We care about – and sing about - work, poverty, social justice and environmental issues. How did the choir come about? Red and Green first started singing together back in March 1998. The choir was the idea of a past member who wanted a choir nearer to where she lived. She came up with ‘Red and Green’ as a temporary name, and it stuck. Where and when do you sing? We are an evening class who meet during term time. We rehearse on Monday nights at 7.00-9.00pm at the Sidings Community Centre, Kilburn. Address - 150 Brassey Road (Off Maygrove Road) London NW6 2BA Do you perform at other times as well? Yes. We also perform on demonstrations and at national events for socially and politically aware choirs. What sort of songs do you sing? We sing songs from the large body of protest, anti-war and political songs, as well as songs that were written more recently. In the past few years we have had the pleasure of having a choir member who is able to arrange songs for us, so our repertoire has expanded enormously. What does the choir believe in? We believe in the power of song to bring people together and create social change for the better. I'm not that great a singer. Can I still join? Of course you can! We welcome singers of all standards but unfortunatly we do not teach singing. Can I talk to someone about Red and Green? Yes, just call Leslie Barson on 020 8969 0893, or contact us using the contact page on this website and we'll get back to you. |
